A Canadian production directed by Oscar nominee Deepa Mehta, and distributed through Oscar nominee Ava DuVernay’s ARRAY distribution company, @IamDeepaMehta describes it as being “Set in Sri Lanka in the middle of its long & bloody civil war, Funny Boy is a film about the power of love. It reflects the times of divisiveness we are living in today, where the call for a just society, a call for humanity is what we are all striving for”, on twitter.

The film will be released globally via Netflix on December 10th, becoming the first Sri Lankan story to be featured on the platform. It has already been submitted as Canada’s official pick in contention for the Best International Feature Film category at the 93rd Oscars.
