With the advancement of AI tools does the approach of an artist change?
Certainly, since I always go with the flow and feel that my approach changes daily, even prior to working with AI. I find that embracing a fluid mindset allows me to continuously to evolve as an artist and explore new artistic territories. Each day brings unique inspiration and perspectives, shaping the way I approach my creative process.
Everything is creativity, so I follow whatever comes to mind and if it moves or interests me, I dig deeper. I should say I listen closer, that would be more accurate. Much of my life has revolved around art, in all mediums, and AI is a “natural” continuum. It is a canvas for me, without creativity the work would lack soul and meaning.
The tech gives the artist a new tool to create with, but a unique individual with his or her layers, perspective and imagination is necessary.
I use AI to create a set of possibilities for my work and then refine and refine and refine based on the outcomes.
I believe that embracing technology in art is a natural progression reflective of our rapidly evolving world. It provides a unique platform for artists to navigate the complexities of the digital age and to express their visions in novel and compelling ways.
The incorporation of AI into my creative process serves as a catalyst for exploration and experimentation.
How do emotion and passion play into your art?
The #1 role in my artistic journey is the pursuit of visual experiences, which serve as my love language. The captivating power of visuals drives me, constantly fueling my creative spirit. All my life, experiences, emotions, and any skill I have cultivated over the years are vital to the art I create. Each piece is a part of me.
I find beauty and depth in visual experiences. Through my art, I aim to translate these visual experiences into forms that resonate deeply with people.
Visual language possesses a universal quality that transcends barriers of culture, language, and background. I strive to create art that invites others to embark on a visual and emotional journey, to explore the world through my eyes, and to connect with the beauty that surrounds us all.
What are you seeing with the current generation of AI tools for video?
Coming from a background in film, I must admit that I am not yet as blown away or inherently drawn to the world of AI video. However, I do appreciate the enthusiasm that surrounds it. I recognize the immense potential that AI holds, and I am genuinely intrigued to witness its evolution.
As a filmmaker, I have witnessed firsthand the transformative power of technology in the creative process. Advancements in visual effects, editing software, and digital cinematography have revolutionized the way stories are told on the silver screen.
While my initial connection to AI artistry may not be as strong, I approach it with an open mind and a sense of anticipation. I am genuinely eager to explore its potential, witness its impact on the artistic community, and discover how it can contribute to the ever-evolving landscape of creative expression. The future holds exciting possibilities, and I am ready to embrace this new frontier with curiosity and a willingness to adapt.
Any advice to artists on how to think about this accelerating change created by AI tools?
The only advice I can offer, regardless of the tools one uses, is to follow what truly moves you. Authenticity and staying connected to your inner passion and intuition.
Could you provide some insight into the specific AI techniques or algorithms you employ in your artwork? How do you choose which ones to use for different projects?
I find myself going between DALL-E, MidJourney, and Runway in my creative process. My technique is a process of experimentation and endless refinement. However, there are two things I never share with the world:
The first is my signature scent, which I crafted over three decades ago. The second is my art recipes. The secret ingredients that make each piece uniquely mine. Mystery holds an irresistible allure, and so I keep these aspects of my creative process a secret.
In what ways does AI enhance your creative expression and push the boundaries of traditional artistic techniques? Are there any unique outcomes or artistic possibilities that AI enables for you?
Returning to the realm of explorations, AI expedites the creative process. It not only accelerates the pace but also surprises me with unforeseen outcomes and discoveries, satisfying my desire for the unexpected. Throughout my journey in film and photography, I have always been captivated by unplanned elements, embracing serendipitous moments.
AI, with its inherent elements of surprise, aligns perfectly with my artistic sensibilities, allowing me to capture and express the genuine essence of life’s unrehearsed moments. I am drawn to art that emanates from the same place, evoking a sense of authenticity and vitality.
