Bitcoin, Beer & Bitstories: SparkPoint attends the monthly Web3 Community Meetup at Makati City
It’s the third time this year that representatives from SparkPoint attended Web3-related meetups in the Philippine National Capital Region, second time at the country’s center of finance and commerce, the City of Makati.
Same venue, but with sprawling new community events for the Web3 enthusiasts, Bitcoin, Beer & Bitstories event held in Draper Startup House Manila (DSHM) last July 28, 2022, has been one of the many community-driven events organized by various individuals involved in the Web3 space, especially those who are into NFTs and the Metaverse. SparkPoint didn’t miss this opportunity to mingle with representatives of startups and projects from all over the nation that builds on top of blockchain technology for diverse types of use cases.
Team Sparky was represented by the head of marketing himself, Drei Bongalos. He also attended a similar event before, Meet-A-Verse, which were also held at DSHM, where he was accompanied by SparkLearn’s CEO, Meri Mesias, and met with an affiliate project of SparkPoint, the Anito Legends Team.

Despite the dire rainy weather, attendees filled the sixth floor of DSHM where the stage is located and where the event was held. July’s edition of the event was headlined by an intro from BitPinas, also the event’s media partner. BitPinas is a content website that promotes and covers news and updates about all-things crypto, blockchain and financial technology (fintech) in the Philippines. The segment introduced the history about Michael Mislos’ team in BitPinas and how it became the one-stop news website for Filipinos who seeks the latest news and updates about blockchain and related things in the country.
The Artist Collective
It was then followed by a panel discussion by Manila’s Artist Collective, a collective group of artists and creatives that utilizes blockchain technology for their creations, moderated DSHM Founder, Christian Munoz. The panel was composed of Titik Poetry, CryptoArtPH, FilipinasNFT, and LikhaNFT, mostly an all-Filipino artist group that ventures on both physical and digital art and NFT.
The panel tackled pressing issues, challenges that today’s digital artists encounter and how blockchain and NFT help their industry advances from it. Likha NFT’s Van Dy emphasizes the advantage of Web3 on showcasing their creations and how it boosted their presence in the local crypto-art industry. Jopet Arias of CryptoArtPH also discussed how Web3 bridges starting artists to the masses and how it brings benefits to them.
After an hour long of insightful question and answer segment, it was followed by a quick break and music performances, then pitches from various startups and projects started rolling on the stage.
The Pitch Portion
The limelight was given to Tetrix, Tezos PHL, BreederDAO, OWNLY, Xircus, Frens not Food, for their pitches.

The segment started with the pitch from Tezos. Tezos Philippines Community Manager, Gian Ferrer presented on behalf of the company. Gian expounded on the features of Tezos, an open source blockchain, and its advantages over other blockchain’s. The presentation also emphasized the blockchain’s energy efficiency and how it helps reduce their carbon footprint.
Ownly, a Bicolano-homegrown project, was the next one to present and was led by none other than the CEO himself, Ismael Jerusalem. Ownly’s presentation was a remarkable one as it utilized NFT and Web3-related memes to entice the audience. Ismael highlighted the upcoming launch of their NFT plus metaverse game called “Mustachio Quest.” The game is Ownly’s first 3D Open World Metaverse Game created inside MustachioVerse, in which players can play using the 3D version of Mustachios NFTs.

Tetrix, a Filipino-led tech startup, represented by Felix Asuncion during the event, presented their decentralized crypto wallet that runs on Tetrix — an omni-chain protocol that bridges to other blockchain, a protocol which also developed in-house. They also presented an innovative business card called “Link”, which can store data (your contact details) and transfer it by tapping the card to NFC-enabled phones, a method that can improve the efficiency on how we give out our information for networking.
The next pitch presenter was Xircus NFT project and was represented by the company Co-Founder Michael Molina. One of the notable features of the project is the ease of deploying your own NFT marketplace through Xircus.
Also, one of the pitch presenters was the CEO of BreederDAO, Renz Carlo Chong. BreederDAO is another Filipino-led tech startup that raised $20.7M after conducting their public sale in May 2022. The presentation focused on presenting the company as a digital-asset creator and provider for various play-to-earn (P2E) games, metaverse and the likes. Renz also presented their roadmap for the coming quarters.
The last one to present is Frens Not Food project. The presenter carried out the pitch by emphasizing their advocacy to promote veganism, animal welfare and charity.

The event concluded with socialization and networking between project representatives.
There were also spectators and representatives from overseas, as mentioned by other attendees like representatives from Alibaba accelerator program dropped by during the event. Personnel from CoinEx Philippines were also present.
About the event
Bitcoin, Beer & Bitstories, is a monthly event, conducted every 4th Thursday of the month that caters to the need of having a venue for the gathering of Web3 enthusiasts, blockchain developers, marketers, heads, and representatives of various crypto or NFT-based projects, looking for prospect partnership and collaboration, learning from each other’s projects and businesses, and of course, for socialization and drinks! Startups usually present their pitches on these types of community events. The next installment of the event is on August 25, 2022, at the Draper Startup House Manila in Makati City.
Conclusion
These gatherings bring Web3-based projects closer to one another and creates a venue to discover promising startup and projects, to create a partnership, be affiliated, and to be exposed to new learnings by introducing each other’s projects in a more intimate setup, by meeting and organizing in-real-life events like Bitcoin, Beer & Bitstories.
In a post COVID-19 pandemic setup where restrictions are starting to ease up, enthusiasts, blockchain developers, marketers, heads and representatives of various Web3-based projects, are starting to catch up on the lost times to create meaningful connections and networking through these meetups. These events could foster potential relationships that would contribute to the booming growth of fintech and blockchain technology industry in the country. Attendees and representatives of these projects also inspires each other to create more meaningful applications through various use-cases of blockchain technology in our everyday life, paving the way to a more efficient and advanced beneficial handling of things in finance, commerce, gaming, arts, and more aspects of our everyday lives. — 🧑🏽🦱 Drei
