When using Fedora, and other RPM-based Linux distributions, you will find yourself asking: what’s the difference between dnf update and dnf upgrade?

Historivally we used dnf update to update all installed packages to their latest available versions. The update managed dependencies and resolved conflicts between packages. In recent versions of dnf the update option has become an alias for dnf upgrade . This means that dnf update now does the same as dnf upgrade .

It is recommended to use the dnf upgrade command to update all installed packages to the latest versions.
