Over the years I’ve met all kinds of people having silently observed, evaluated and analysed I’ve come to a few conclusions

The most prevalent thought amongst researchers measuring happiness is that the correlation between money and happiness is not exponential.

There is no doubt that societal structors are monumentally build around Money: with access to substantially better healthcare, leisure activities, shield from unpredictable life events and some more..

but it’s still not enough for us to have lasting happiness.

Thus begs the question what does give us lasting happiness?

1. Following your bliss/ Purpose

Individuals that follow their bliss (which is an inner calling/gut feeling) and don’t deviate from it based on external, societal and peer pressure have a stronger inner compass as they are shielded from events external to them.

They’re following their voice, which leads them to happiness

It lets them have faith, trust and work through uncomfortable life situations.

A great example if someone struggling to get out of a 5 year relationship, their inner voice wants them to leave but the logical or fearful side is scared to make a decision. By choosing bliss they’d eventually lead a far more authentic life

2. Being seen and heard (inner child)

In this fast paced world, we’re no longer spending time as a community but getting lonelier as a race.

We have bills to pay, jobs to get to, longer working hours and side hustles. Fabricating lesser moments of joyful communication, experiencing the joy of “doing nothing”, aspects of life that a child enjoys!

Children are happy, playful and find fun in everything but WE are driven by stress, fear, comparison that we have forgotten how to be playful

The more moments of love, sharing a meal or even just having fun in life we incorporate the more we’ll enjoy our journey of life and be in a state of happiness.

“life is not a sprint, it’s wholesome and a spectrum filled with Joy, Happiness, Love, Abundance, but also sadness, fear, challenges and attachment”

3. Love in any form

Love is a force to be reckoned with, it’s an eternal flame that we as humans have access to, it’s a shame our society underplays it and limits it to “Romantic love” . 7 Billion people but “one person” to fill your entire wholesome being. Wonder why we’re so addicted to things and technology? because of-course one person and one type of love is not adequate

could also be a co-relation to divorce rates?

Instead if we let love flow by being a force of love for people around us, creating loving daily interactions, choosing compassion and seeking to be a source of love for humanity we’ll find our lives filled with love.

We’ll also become a better partner in our romantic relationships, creating long lasting bonds.

A great read to imbibe this philosophy is “The Four Agreements: A practical guide to personal freedom” by Don Miguel Ruiz

4. Slow living

Rushing through life and wondering why time is flying by?

This is a sure sign that you need to slow down in life.

We as a race are either living in the past or the future thus the “present” moment is ceasing to exist.

Driven by subliminal messaging from social media, externally driven individuals and society at large

It’s a fact that

not EVERYONE needs to be an Entrepreneur

not EVERYONE needs to be a millionaire by 30

not EVERYONE needs to be married by 30

“not EVERYONE needs to be ________” (insert a message that’s driven by society for you here”

If we’re all alike, what will be the difference between Robots and us?

Our life journeys are not meant to be alike, we are individual souls with different purpose and way of life, accepting this is a starting point towards a more slower (at your own pace), happy life!

5. Rituals

Over centuries we’ve been forming rituals: rituals to celebrate life, triumph of good over evil or praying to a higher source of power.

Rituals give us a sense of grounding, faith and belief in life beyond us.

They also bring us together.

Witnessed first hand in Bali, COVID struck hard and dampened their economy but it couldn’t damper their spirit.

Their rituals, faith and a sense a community pushed them through the tough times.

Rituals bring us closer to our inner centre and towards like minded people

6. Growth, Progress and Routines

Witnessing progress in our lives, gives us a sense of control and oh boy! don’t we enjoy that? Seeing your bank balance grow, seeing a project come to fruition, finishing a book! WOW!

It’s important to celebrate our progress, small wins and push through towards routines that bring us closer to our bliss. They bring about forward motion “onwards and upwards” for a reason

7. Life book/ Better version of self

Consider a ship with a captain on board and 5 other people, if the captain doesn’t know the destination, the additional 5 people will chip in and ask for 5 different directions.

Whereas if the captain knows the destination, the path is set and the sails are full flow in that direction

Life vision, book, goals all give us guidance towards our authentic path and reinforce us to life consciously following our bliss

8. Belief that you’re in control of your life

Some of us as individuals are far more challenged than others, this is a fact.

Thus the path towards creating this belief can be harder for some but ultimately reaching this belief is when genius is created.

The happiest people have this belief, that they are in control of their lives (at-least 60% if not more).

Evolution happens, when we believe we are in control.

The Wright brothers knew this, Nelson Mandela knew this and so did many other such truly beautiful souls which we may not know of.

9. Life beyond self

Have you ever measured the % of time spend thinking about self on a daily basis?

On an average, people spend >90% of their life thinking about self.

If you think about it objectively, this is ODD.

We live in a world where survival without fellow beings, ecosystem — life is impossible yet we choose to act self- intrinsically.

This leads us to believe that “we” are SO important in this world causing our EGO’s to inflate and thus….leading us to be a part of the consumption economy rather than contributing economy.

Being of service to others is a deeply full-filling experience that brings us closer to our soul purpose

“The sole meaning of life is to serve humanity” — Leo Tolstoy

10. Chasing Adventures

Our life on earth has SO much to offer, we have so many ADVENTURES to experience that one life doesn’t seem enough, well at-least to me!

So for the little time of our existence here, why don’t we drink 4 glasses of wine one night, binge on a vacation and spend 1 hour every day towards activities that just bring us joy?

Let’s see being on earth as an eternal blessing and utilise the fruit of it rather than make it a poisonous apple

Adventure can be taking a new path to work, trying a new skill, cooking something new.. Completely changing careers (following your bliss) that is or even just choosing a sport that brings joy!

When was the last time you followed your heart towards joy? If the answer is more than 3 months back? Then it’s time to get set on your next adventure…

Look around you, find the happiest people and start learning from them!
