If you are a regular vlog consumer then your life can be destroyed physically and mentally. You can’t even imagine how these YouTubers are playing with your innocent life. This article is a case study on how daily vloggers are killing you. I will share my personal experience of how vlogging impacted my life and how I handled it. Let's begin.
Today, in the world of digitalization, everyone has a phone or other device from which he/she can access the internet. Fortunately or unfortunately, our children are so addicted to the use of phones or the internet at such an age when they must be addicted to books or other stuff like that. Alas…!
First, we will see why we are addicted to social media before going into detail. If you are curious about how social media is playing with our lives, then must have a look at this masterpiece.
Why Are We Addicted to Vlogging Videos?
Vlog is like a video in which the vlogger or the person who is making a video records his/her daily life. You might be wondering why is it bad.
I am not criticizing anyone but if you closely look at the scenario, what actually vloggers are presenting? Any life lesson? Any useful material? Maybe somehow, but the majority do not.
Then what type of stuff they portray in their videos? The answer is “luxurious life”. You can test this. Open a Youtube and search for vlogs. You will see a list of vloggers who are quite famous in your desired location and when you will see the thumbnails or titles, you will see the titles like these
I Bought a New Car!
I Build a New Mansion
I Spent a Night in 7 Star Hotel
Is there any useful information in such videos that you can use to bring a positive impact in your life? That is the question, you have to ask yourself.
Now the question is, how these are impacting our lives? Now, according to a survey,
Watching Vlogs is 5x more addictive than Cigratte & Alcohol
Where a cigarette or alcohol just destroys your physical health, vlogs can destroy both your physical & mental health. How? See below.
How YouTube Vloggers Are Destroying Our Mental & Physical Health?
It’s my personal view, that when we spend time on the internet like on YouTube or on TikTok, what are our intentions? Actually, we are getting impressed by the second person. This constant comparison makes us feel inferior and ultimately that things affect our mental approach and force us to accept that we are unhappy with our life.
And now here vlogs add spice to this situation. Normally vloggers present their luxurious lifestyle that further makes us feel inferior and unsatisfied with our lives and ultimately we start cursing our life that why I am poor? Why am I unhappy?
Are you Unhappy with your life? Then why not see some amazing tips to be happy in your life in every case?
Now you will say, it’s a kind of entertainment for me. Do you really think it's entertaining? What’s the purpose of entertainment? Definitely to feel relaxed. But I think
Vlogging/Social Media is not free, its cost your focus
There is always a Hidden Cost. Keep remembering, When something is free, You are the Product.
If you see, these YouTubers are using us to make millions of dollars each month. Because if you will not watch their content, then how they will get paid? Think about that.
How Blogging is Different from Vlogging? Is there any impact of Blogging on our lives?
As I said earlier, a vlog is a video format of a blog. If we see a blog, then in blogs there are no characters, so you don't have any personal connections, whereas in vlogs there are always some characters, and with a period of time you get emotionally connected with such characters.
How You Invest Your Emotions By Watching Vlogs
When you watch a vlog, the vloggers are selling you an experience for which you give your time to buy out. Infact other than time, you are investing your emotions in the characters you are seeing in the vlogs. With the passage of time, as you start watching more vlogs, you invest more emotions.
To make this more powerful, the vloggers expose their privacy to make you more engaged. As you more engage, they use this to get more views and ultimately more income.
Does Vlogger’s Life itself get Impacted?
Now till we were just talking about, how vloggers play with the lives of their audience. Now we will see how daily vlogging impacts their own lives too.
To understand this, let's have an example. Whenever you watch a family vlog, you always see everyone is happy and their life is full of fun. Am I right? But the other side of the picture is different, every family has some issues, and their life is not perfect at all. So in order to create a fun full vlog, the vloggers pretend to be happy. Infact, I personally asked some vloggers about how vlogging affected their lives and how their life is so productive. You will be surprised to hear that majority of vloggers said to me that “ We just do things for the vlogs just to make vlogs interesting”.
Secondly, when vloggers expose their privacy, they get stuck in a pit where various issues of family disturbance arise.
Effects of Vlogging on Children
The most important thing is the child's celebrity syndrome. When vloggers show their families in their vlogs. The family members and the children also get fame. According to psychology, when a child is born with fame, he/she gets celebrity treatment because of his/her mom or dad or any other family member, then with the passage of time, the child always wants to get the celebrity treatment. If how such a child loses fame, he/she falls victim to celerity syndrome.
Such things affect the vlogger’s life and they get stressed.
Every vlogger has to pay a price for its fame
Food bloggers pay price for their health
Family bloggers pay price by exposing their privacy
Travel bloggers pay price by going into expensive trips
Lifestyle bloggers pay price by pretending fake lifestyle
How I Get Stuck In Vlogging and How I Came out of this Pit?
I am a medical student and often I am busy and don’t get time to hang out or watch stuff on social media. It was the time of COVID-19 when my university closed due to the lockdown. So after online classes, I often used to watch videos on youtube. This was the time when I was first introduced to the vlogging world.
I watched a random vlog and after that, the same vlogging videos often pop up in my social feed. I don't know how youtube's robotic system was playing with my mind. I get stuck and it became my habit to watch 2–3 vlogs daily before sleep.
After continuously watching vlogs, I felt a restlessness in my life, I thought about how much hard work I am putting in, my parents are doing a lot of effort, and after that, I will get a job for a few bucks and these YouTubers of my age are earning millions at my age without any skill.
That thing stuck in my mind and I got distracted from my studies. I thought to become famous and rich overnight and such things made me feel that my life is not good, I am poor, I do not have anything, etc.
These things aggravate my restlessness and I ended up stressed.
How did I overcome it?
One day, I was in the Library where I read a very informative article on the purpose of life. That's the day, my life was changed completely. I understand the real meaning of life. I knew what is life and who we are and why we are here.
I started reading books/articles, and such a habit encourages me to write about my personal experience and other such things that can help people to tackle difficulties in their lives. I changed my habits and developed a positive approach to my life. Now whenever I get some free time, I write or spend quality time with my parents.
In the end, I will say
Stop Comparing your Life with Others. You are the best version of yourself, just try to put off bad habits and put on good habits.
Good Bye!
