But it is the most delicious thing I can think of!

Close your eyes. Do you remember the last time you were completely surrounded by the intoxicating smells of sweet, juicy, freshly baked pastries? That never forgettable, mouth-watering aroma satisfies our bakeries, homes and hearts as they assist in celebrating the most precious experiences in life, and today we celebrate its existence.

ABOUT

We all know what an apple pie is.

An apple pie is traditionally a double crusted pastry shell in which the principal filling ingredients are delicious apples. You’ve seen this yummy dessert served with whipped topping, sprinkled with cheese or you’ve enjoyed apple pie à la mode! Who doesn’t want a dollop of ice cream with warm pie?!

There’s a cute saying in the States, “It’s as American as apple pie.”

It makes me think, in the Americas I’ve enjoyed numerous apple pies, at home, at restaurants, with friends and at gatherings. But how local are the origins of apple pie? One of our nation’s favorite desserts may not be as “American” as one may think.

HISTORY

On May 13th we celebrate National Apple Pie Day by telling the historical ditty of one of the most scrumptious desserts in existence, starting way back in 1381, it was then the first recorded apple pie recipe was printed. The simple mix of ingredients included “good” apples, spices, figs, raisins, pears, saffron, and cofyn, which is a type of pastry crust.

As you lick your lips and remember the last sweet, delectable dessert you consumed, ponder this: Even though apple pie is an unofficial symbol of the United States, this recipe first appeared in England.

Despite apple pie blessing our taste buds well before the Pilgrims landed on the eastern shores of what is now The United States, Americans wax poeticlly about their love for “American” apple pie. The phrase “as American as apple pie” has proclaimed for over 100 years! During the 1970's, advertisers used the patriotic connection with a commercial jingle “Baseball, hot dogs, apple pie, and Chevrolet.” Source.
