This article was inspired by an interaction that happened fairly recently. We were kicking it, met a group of people, liked their vibes so we figured why not? Let’s just hang out. As often happens with new encounters, the conversation meandered to what everyone did and podcasts came up (of course we brought it up). We shared some of the plans we had for the new year with our new acquaintances and were appropriately ashamed when we were unable to provide a comprehensive list of episodes to check out from the shows on the Gold Coast Report network. This article is admittedly a delayed response, the handy guide to the shows on the GCR network (pre-season 3). We asked the hosts which episodes they would share with a first time listener and their choice, along with comments are below.

If you are new to podcasts, been wondering what all the fuss is about and what’s with these cats who keep tagging their posts with #GCR & #GhPod🇬🇭 — this is your opportunity to find out :)

Free Your Mind: Mask Off

Gene, Thandie and Donald on the search for ‘Ghanaianness’

On this episode, guests Gene and Thandie joined Donald in discussing identity and fitting into our society. The crew talked about the importance of having a strong sense of self and the danger of losing oneself trying to be accepted by everyone. For our Ghanaian listeners, this discussion serves to remind us that no individual experience determines who the average Ghanaian is.

There is no one size fits all definition of what it is to be Ghanaian and this episode highlights that various experiences are unique to all of us.

The Other Room: Fatal Attraction

Kiki & Jay join your favorite roommates Kess and Ria

Aben and Jasmine of the YouTube vlogging channel, Kiki and Jay were guests on this The Other Room to talk everything Kiki & Jay. Kess and Ria find out what got them to start a YouTube channel and share their relationship with their viewers. The couple also share how key support from friends and family has been in dealing with negativity they get online.

If you are looking for an episode that highlights the significance of small beginnings as well as finding out more about yourself by trying something new, this is an episode you do not want to miss.

The Unartiste Podcast: LGBTQ & RESPECT

Mr. Vogue himself & Denzel serve up a classic

Discovery is a very active process and at GCR we fully encourage first time listeners to our shows and podcasts in general to just dive into the deep end. From the moment you start listening, you can clearly tell the hosts enjoyed recording this. It is a no holds barred episode where they address a serious issue in their own way — with lots of humor, shade and cussing signed, sealed and delivered to all who deserved it.

After Work Special: Ghana Police Sends Us To Rehab

What happens when you hangout with your co-workers on a podcast past closing time? Listen to find out!

Ever had a great idea but felt unsure about how it played out because of the execution? Well, this ISN’T that. Your favorite co-workers sauntered off to the beach and partook in a journey of self discovery, discussed the oft-ignored deadlocks stereotyping and the seemingly inescapable interactions with the Police that tests your resolve to not pay bribes.

The best lessons in life are often the ones you didn’t know you needed to learn and if that sounds right up your alley, you will enjoy this episode from After Work Special.

Sincerely Accra: LAFA

Archiving our culture is a thankless job so we are glad our modern griot is more than up to the thankless task

Sometimes, the best way to make a point to someone is to hold a mirror up to their actions and in this episode, Sincerely Accra host, Joseph Nti is joined by his alter egos as he confronts the capital about locally acquired foreign accents.

Why is this a thing? Does it bother us? Are people feeling compelled to get their LAFA on? These questions and more are posed to Accra — and she answered.

After The Whistle: When Legends Fall

Sports is very much interwoven into our lives and with such emotional investment comes the need for honest discussions

Lex joins Cyril and Donald for a rather somber episode as Ronaldo’s rape allegations is broken down and discussed. There is the acknowledgement that as individuals we strive to do more…to be better people. As fans then do should we seek to demand more from the players we support? Or are we setting them up for inevitable failure when they don’t live up to our expectations?

For sports fans who appreciate that the games we love now extend beyond actions on the fields and non-sport people who are looking to understand how sports permeates all we do — press play.

3XtraRadio: GMT Live!

Talk show radio reinvented!

Every so often, when attempting to describe what a ‘podcast’ is, just saying it is like a radio show that you can listen to at anytime helps frame what the listener should expect. Our great experiment last season was to find out what would happen when podcasters run a radio show.

This episode with the godMC rapper, M.anifest is the wacky introduction to the show and it’s crew. To call Ria, Cyril and Wackle unconventional voices on radio will be doing them a great disservice. Listen and be your own judge.

All good things come to an end. We are talking of course about our season 2 break :) GCR returns to it’s full podcast programming this March. We have an expanded bouquet of shows we can’t wait to share with you!
