Welcome to the inaugural issue of “The Goods”. In each issue I’ll share with you some things I’ve come across worthy of your attention, be it an interesting article, idea, product, app, song, documentary, or other randomness.

This month: the silk road, a documentary pick, nutrition in a pill, real dancing, an app recommendation, some summer tunes, and more (not really, that’s it)…

Read This : The Untold Story of Silk Road’s Rise — and Fall

This was my favorite article of the last year or so, an absolutely epic saga of Ross Ulbricht’s journey from your average 20-something living in San Francisco to “an idealist (who) built a global drug bazaar and became a murderous kingpin” aka Dread Pirate Roberts of the Silk Road. It’s a stranger than fiction story that would make an unbelievable Hollywood movie script. Give it a read, I think you’ll love it.

Watch This : Supermensch

Available on Netflix, “Supermensch” is a documentary that profiles the life of Shep Gordon, a guy who is apparently friends with just about every celebrity you can think of in Hollywood. Shep has had an incredibly interesting life and has an infectiously positive and likable attitude that really comes across in the movie. Spend 90 minutes meeting Shep and you’ll be in a better mood.

Download This : Pocket

I use this app almost every day. If you are someone who has a lot of “dead time” in your life (i.e commuting, waiting in lines etc.) then Pocket will be your friend. The app allows you to save down pages you want to view later, so you always have interesting articles/news to read when you need it. The best part? You don’t need any internet service to read them, as Pocket can download everything to your device, allowing you to access your articles no matter where you are (like 30,000 feet in the sky or on the subway). Their Chrome browser web clipper extension also works well. There’s even a feature that allows you to switch seamlessly from where you stopped reading to audio when you need your eyes back (only appealing if you can deal with a Siri-voice reading to you - I could not). Here’s a quick guide to using the app.

Supplement : Amazing Grass Green Superfood Capsules

Perhaps you decide you’d like to start taking advantage of the benefits of green shakes, but having to slurp down a glass of pulverized veggies every day is, for you, a total non-starter. Easy — take these capsules instead. You’ll get your dose of superfoods like wheat grass, spirulina, spinach, and chlorella plus probiotics, fiber, and antioxidants. This is my catch-all, all-in-one nutrition insurance.

Laughs : Real Dancing

Some high-level dancing technique displayed by Chris D’Elia.

Tunes : Summer Jams

“Kings Of Summer” — ayokay Spotify/Youtube
“You Are My Summer” — La+ch Spotify/Youtube

Preach : Know-it-alls

“You will always find a few Eskimos ready to tell the Congolese how to cope with the heat.” — Stanislaw Lec
