Angry Orchard Hosts Breast Cancer Awareness Event

Hundreds gathered at the Angry Orchard cider-house in Walden on October 4 for the third annual Walden Savings Bank “Real Men Wear Pink’ fundraiser.

Real Men Wear Pink is an initiative for The American Cancer Society and promotes breast cancer awareness among not only women, but men as well. All proceeds raised at Angry Orchard were donated to the American Cancer Society during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Anyone was welcome to attend the fundraiser from 4 to 8 p.m. Those in attendance over the age of 21 were able to get their hands on a complimentary tasting flight, which featured their flagship Crisp Apple, Rose, and Pear ciders. Anyone who wore pink to the event was rewarded with 10% of any merchandise that was being sold, as well as $1 off of draft ciders.

During the night, raffle tickets were sold for $10 in efforts to raise money for the American Cancer Society. For $1, visitors could attempt a bean-bag toss in hopes for a free cider. The orchard provided a fire pit along with live music, food trucks, apple cider doughnuts, and backyard games like “corn hole” for everyone to enjoy. The orchard extends 60 acres in the heart of the Hudson Valley; perfect for tourists and residents to stop by during the peak autumn season.

Walden Savings Bank proudly partners with Real Men Wear Pink. Crystal Johnson, the marketing representative from Walden Savings spoke on behalf of the bank on the event. “The event started three years ago and we all wanted to do something to raise awareness for breast cancer for the local community,” Johnson said. “We are all so pumped to come out to any of our events, specifically this one because of how great the cause is.”

Jamie Correia, one of the managers at the Angry Orchard, really enjoys being around this event. “I absolutely love what we do here and the atmosphere it brings. We get to see the survivors come into a safe place and represent who they are,” Correia said. “All of the tips go straight towards the Real Men Wear Pink fund and we love celebrating the month of October the right way.”

$2,500 was raised and all of that went directly towards the Real Men Wear Pink fund. With tips from the bartenders, 50/50 raffles, and the welcoming atmosphere that this day brought, everyone was pleased with the outcome.
