Traditionally, Thanksgiving has been celebrated among families and close friends. Though focused on the gathering of family members, the holiday also acknowledges those people that are outside kinship. Friendsgiving has become the coined term to describe a Thanksgiving celebrated among friends. This year my housemate, Ashly, and myself decided to celebrate our very first Friendgiving. I thought it was appropriate to celebrate Friendsgiving with Ashly especially since she was not able to spend this holiday with her family back in Hawaii. It was important — at least to me — that she was able to celebrate Thanksgiving in some shape or form. We celebrated two days before Thanksgiving Day and cooked six different dishes of food.

Overview of the six different dishes.
To the left, chicken stew, red kidney beans and baked macaroni with bread crumbs. To the right baked sweet potato and baked chicken.
