According to Public Policy Polling and The Independent news outlet, a poll was done over the summer that showed 13 percent of Americans would rather a meteor strike Earth than than decide whether they want Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump in office. This is quite striking, and says a lot about the opinions of voters on our presidential candidates. It’s no secret that this election season has been one of the craziest in history. There are some who love to discuss it, and there are those who avoid it, but almost all would like to get away from it. The Hudson Valley radio station 101.5 WPDH agrees. This classic rock radio station, specifically the Brand Manager, Joe LiMardi and the stations morning show; The Boris and Robyn Show.

Joe LiMardi and the morning show had an idea on how to actually get away from it all. They decided to start a contest to give one WPDH listener and guest a free trip to Canada. They’re calling it the “Escape the Election” contest, and all you have to do is print out a downloadable campaign poster (shown above) on their website, put it on your lawn or work area, take a picture of it and send it in to be eligible for a free trip to Canada. When asked about their reasoning for starting this contest, LiMardi said, “So many people are talking about this election and joking about how no matter who wins we’re screwed so might as well move to Canada.”

So far only 15 people have entered to win, but one contestant is pretty passionate about winning. This person “printed out 101 posters and displayed them all over their front yard,” said LiMardi. Whoever wins will receive an exact amount of $750 within a travel voucher to anywhere in Canada at anytime. The winner will be judged on “the location of the sign and the creativity of its placement” according to their website in which the poster can be found, “…as long as it’s not against the law” they also make a point to say.

With Election Day rapidly approaching, so is the deadline to enter the competition. The winner will be announced the day after the election on Nov. 9 on The Boris and Robyn Show, just in time to stick to their word and “Escape The Election” once the chaos starts to occur. Even if people feel like there is no real winner in this election, at least they can win a free vacation out of it. LiMardi reiterates “…there’s so many heavy opinions this political season that we decided to take a lighter approach” when talking about the contest idea and the election. Hopefully, Canada won’t build a wall keeping the winner out. And if you’re one of the 13 percent in favor of the meteor, than I’m sure you’re hoping for a lot worse things than a wall.
