After years of being known for its beautiful mountains and scenic overlooks, the movie industry has now found a way to capitalize on all of the natural beauty that the Hudson Valley has to offer. After the success of the box office hit, A Quiet Place, a feature picture in which was written, directed, and starred actor John Krasinski, the film industry has flocked to this mountainous area for an array of artistic feats.

Besides, A Quiet Place, One of the movies in which also recently just came to select theaters is, The Escape Of Prisoner 614, which was filmed in the fall of 2017 by Hudson Valley director Zach Golden. This western comedy follows two ingenuous, recently-fired Sheriff’s Deputies (Jake McDorman and Martin Starr) who decide to hunt down an escaped prisoner with the aspirations of getting their jobs back. But when they find out that the man they’ve discovered is innocent, they have to figure out what the best course of action is for themselves ethically.

“It’s films like, The Escape Of Prisoner 614, that helps to solidify our region within the film industry,” said Laurent Rejto, a member of the Hudson Valley Film Commission, which is an outlet for preproduction, production and postproduction for film, tv, photography, and new media in the Mid-Hudson Valley and Catskill region. “These medium-sized films use an array of local talent within the Hudson Valley in a way that showcases everything that is special about this area.”

Outside of these two feature movies, Diane, Fabled, and the Seagull all recently just hit and found success at the Tribeca Film Festival scene. With the success of all of this new production, the industry is currently buzzing to create new features in this area.

“I can’t talk specifics about new films but we are working with over 20 new productions as we speak,” said Rejto. “More specifically, we are about to see three productions begin within the next week or so.”
