Art lovers and people of all ages can explore Magazzino Italian Art in Cold Spring, New York. Currently closed for construction, the Italian art museum opened its doors to aesthetes of the Hudson Valley in 2017. Due to the self-proclaimed minimalist aesthetic, the museum survived through the pandemic.

“We are centered around the Art De Povera Movement, which was a movement coming out of the 1960s in Italy that was kind of birthed in Turin that followed the Futurism movement,” said Carly Andrew, gallery attendant at Magazzino, “It’s sort of like this hidden cultural gem.”

Striving for bigger and better, the museum is broadening its horizons in 2024. Andrew continued, “We hold 12 artists in our permanent collection; on September 14th, we open our new building, which has all of our temporary exhibitions and our new cafe and bookstore.” Magazzino might be a new hot spot in the Hudson Valley. With museums like the Dia Beacon debuting revolutionary exhibits such as Andy Warhol’s “Shadows” project, Magazzino is looking to reach new heights.

Now on display at Magazzino Italian Art are three temporary exhibits: Carlo Scarpa’s Murano Glass, Mario Schifano’s Rise of the 60s, and Ettore Spalletti’s Parole di Colore.
