Pickleball and Golf will be under the same roof sooner rather than later in the Poughkeepsie Area
After months of talks about adding an indoor pickleball and golf center to the Poughkeepsie area since December, it is starting to come to fruition. Owners Brian Vigorita, Glen Beram and Russel Tigges are hopeful that the Hudson Valley Pickleball and Golf Center is now on track for an early May opening.
The center is going to be where the old Christmas Tree Shop used to be located on South Road in Poughkeepsie. The shop is about 40,000 square feet which is perfect for pickleball and golf lovers.
“We looked at a couple of different facilities that were the column spacing or the ceiling height or whatever it may be just wasn’t working out. Then some of the other spaces that we looked at work, were kind of really large spaces, which would take a substantial amount of capital to kind of build out. So we got lucky. Working with that DLC management who actually owns the South Hills Mall. So when we checked it out, that was 40,000 square feet.” said Vigorita
The game of pickleball is rapidly growing and for those not familiar with the game, Vigorita described it as an easier tennis type of sport.
“It’s kind of like a version of tennis, where it’s a smaller collection. You play with the paddle and hit a wiffle ball. It’s very similar to the game of tennis, but it’s just a little easier to play. It’s easy for anybody to pick up and actually be pretty good at.”
In speaking with Co- Owner Brian Vigorita the team is hopeful for a start in May, as the setback is due to building permit issues.
“We ran into some delays with town and permit getting plan approval, so it’s probably most likely going to be an early night.” said Vigorita
Many locals in Poughkeepsie are super happy with the golf simulators because when you live in the Northeast, you only have six maybe seven outdoor golf months a year. In the new center, there will be five golf simulator bays.
“As someone who golfs, I find it tough to golf over the winter because when you live in the Northeast, it is basically impossible to golf up here in the winter. Now that there are golf simulators I will definitely be taking advantage of the simulators to keep my game sharp over the winter,” said Daniel Mascola.
There will also be tournaments and league offerings for all skill levels for those interested.
With the center target open date in May, there is excitement brewing in the Hudson Valley and an eagerness to see what it looks like.
