As of 3 p.m. on this Election Day, the Dutchess County Board of Elections believes that most people still haven’t voted.

When asked about the turnout for Dutchess County and who people have been voting for a Board of Elections representative said, “We don’t have those numbers; not a large amount of people have voted yet.”

The Board Of Elections has been “answering phones all day” but is “frustrated” with the turnout thus far.

Not knowing the numbers to this point makes it hard to predict whether Secretary Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump will get the Poughkeepsie vote.

Poughkeepsie has normally voted for whoever is elected since 2000. Election results showed that Poughkeepsie has voted for President George W. Bush over Al Gore 52,669 votes to 51,576 in 2000. President Bush was re-elected in Poughkeepsie with 63,396 votes over John Kerry’s 58,272.

In 2008 President Barack Obama defeated John McCain 71,060 votes to 59,628. 2012 election results showed that President Obama received more votes in Poughkeepsie than Mitt Romney 62,063 to 48,264.

Poughkeepsie is primarily a Democratic district, just like the larger state of New York is. However, that didn’t stop the people of Poughkeepsie from voting for republican President Bush and Mayor Rob Rolison more recently.

If you are registered and do not know where your local polling place is, you can find them here: http://www.dutchesselections.com/Poll_Sites_/index.html

If previous election results are any indication, more people will vote for the next President in Poughkeepsie than not. But as of mid-afternoon, many of those votes are still in the future.

“We expect much more votes to come than have already come in,” the representative said.
