Poughkeepsie residents’ thoughts on the first holiday snowfall
Residents in Dutchess County experienced their first snowfall of the year this past Saturday with an accumulation of 4 inches around the county. Dutchess County residents feel that this first snowfall has left them filled with the heartwarming spirit of the holiday season.
“It was definitely nice to see the snow on the ground In early December.” City of Poughkeepsie resident Joseph Iradukunda. “These past few years we haven’t really been getting snowfall in early December or before Christmas so this was a nice surprise.”
According to an article from The Poughkeepsie Journal snowfall began before 11 a.m. and that once the snow started to fall it started to fall at a rate of half an inch per hour.
“I love this weather,” Town of Poughkeepsie resident Valeria Coronel states. “When I saw snowfall on the ground I felt such a Christmassy feeling.”
Another Town of Poughkeepsie resident Mary Espino has mixed feeling about this weather. She states “ I am a big fan of the fun activities that you can do in this weather such as sledding and snow angels. She adds: “When it comes to the boring physical activities such as shoveling, cleaning the snow off the car, and dealing with black ice I hate the snow so much and just want it to melt.”
The snowy weather also brought some troubles around the county. According to the Poughkeepsie Journal article Dana Smith, commissioner of DC (Department of Emergency Response) the county had 23 property damage auto accidents and 4 auto accidents that resulted in personal injury from the time range 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and more property damage accidents than a normal day.
Hudson Valley Weather group stated that more snow is expected to come late Monday to early Tuesday with a high of 42 degrees and an average low of 27 degrees.
