By the time Carrie Underwood sings, “get off your seat, stomp your feet, start clapping, I got real good feeling something bad about to happen,” tonight most of Poughkeepsie still hasn’t tuned in to watch the team they support the most. That’s because that team doesn’t play until Monday night.

A recent poll done by The Groundhog shows that 58% of people who live in Poughkeepsie are fans of the New York Football Giants.

This may come to no surprise to some people because MetLife Stadium (home of the Giants) is just 75 miles away from Poughkeepsie, the closest NFL team.

That would also explain the 2nd most supported team in Poughkeepsie, the New York Jets. The Jets share MetLife Stadium with the Giants and received 22% of the vote.

Despite playing in New Jersey, both the Jets and Giants are well represented in the “Queen City.”

Perhaps the last decade of success by Tom Brady and Bill Belichick landed the Patriots some support in the area because 10% of Poughkeepsians claimed to be fans.

Many people believe the only real New York team is the Buffalo Bills, they are supported by six percent of people from Poughkeepsie and they are the furthest team supported in this survey being more than five hours away.

Only five of 32 NFL teams were represented by this random survey and the fifth is the Philadelphia Eagles. Only four percent of people are fans of the Eagles but, Philadelphia is closer than Buffalo, about the same distance as Gillette Stadium and they play in the same division as the Giants. The chance of the Eagles being on television in the area is likely if the Giants or Jets are not scheduled at that time.

A local Eagles fan who asked to be anonymous said, “growing up in Philly, you either like their teams or you get out, Philadelphians take their teams very seriously.”
