For all of you that haven’t been to Beacon, NY yet to soak in its small city village vibe or get an Instagram on the busy streets that are filled with quirky paintings and sculptures, now is your time because it is finally Spring. Beacon is a small city located in Dutchess County, New York and has changed positively throughout the last decade.

Beacon used to be known for their ski slope located on Mount Beacon which has now turned into a destination for hikers. The city has morphed their image into something more trendy and appealing. On any given day you can pull onto Main Street and from the very beginning you see a coffee house (that now serves beer) where you can hang out, chat with friends, do work or even see live music at night. Then you will turn and on the other side of the street and see a Taqueria called Tito’s Santana which is only a couple years new to the Beacon scene. The list could go on and on. As you walk up Main Street you’ll see more cafes, quirky knick-knack shops, art galleries and vintage second hand clothing stores.

“On the weekends we used to go to the city to go out with our friends because there wasn’t much to do up here but now that Beacon has become such a hot spot we are able to spend our money at home and support local business which I think is really important,” Amanda Liber resident of Wappingers Falls, said.

The second Saturday of every month Beacon hosts a “Second Saturday” event that spreads throughout all of Beacon where shops and restaurants will have special deals or promotions and the streets will be filled with live music and different events going on. Second Saturday started as an effort to get more people to come to Beacon and spend their Saturday’s exploring and trying new things.

A small vintage clothing boutique opened in 2014 called ‘American Gypsy Vintage’ where couple Nicole and Cabot pursued their passion for vintage items and detailed fashion. They actively participate in Second Saturday’s and just like many other shops they will have their door open welcoming people in to look through their treasures.

“It’s really awesome for us to be able to share our unique findings with the people of Beacon, we wanted to bring a vintage feel to the already up and coming Beacon and Second Saturday really helps our business grow,” said Nicole owner of American Gypsy Vintage.

The possibilities in Beacon are endless and that is reflected through the crowds of people you will see on any given Second Saturday.
