In honor of Breast Cancer awareness month this October, Sparkle My Head Scarves and Lorraine Tyne Bridal will co-host their 5th Annual Pink Kiss runway event. The event will showcase bridal designs as well as headwear and accessories while also celebrating local breast cancer survivors. A portion of the proceeds will go to Sparrow’s Nest, a Nonprofit organization that delivers home cooked meals to families and caregivers of cancer patients.

Sparkle My Head Scarves is a Beacon-based company selling soft head scarves specially made for women with conditions causing hair loss like cancer treatments and alopecia. The soft scarves embellished with rhinestones and beading give women who are frustrated with the lack of fashionable, comfortable headwear an option that makes them feel beautiful. They proudly boast that “Sparkle My Head Scarves are designed to empower women to sparkle & shine…” Sparkle My Head Scarves does an overlooked service to the female community suffering from these conditions: making them feel beautiful.

According to breastcancer.org as of March 2017, there are over 3.1 million women with a history of breast cancer in the United States. In January 2016 the American Cancer Society reported an estimated 15.5 million Americans with a history of cancer. Cancer’s widespread nature impacts both patients and families. Sarah Graby-Boris, founder of and designer for Sparkle My Head Scarves, continues to raise awareness for all types of cancer due to her close encounters with the fatal disease. At 20, Sarah lost her father to cancer. “He was only 47 years old,” said Sarah. “Then nine years later my Aunt Sally, my mom’s youngest sister, was diagnosed with B-Cell Lymphoma, a type of rare cancer. When she lost her hair due to her cancer treatments, she was heartbroken over the un-stylish, uncomfortable head scarves available.” Sarah’s design skills allowed her to refurbish comfortable tee shirts into stylish head scarves for her aunt, thus creating Sparkle My Head Scarves.

“Teaming up with Lorraine Tyne Bridal to do these Pink Kiss Cancer Awareness Events gives me a sense that I am making a difference in someone’s life who has faced the same difficult battle that I saw my dad and aunt go through,” Sarah included. At the Pink Kiss runway event, Sarah’s Aunt Sally will join other local cancer survivors on the runway as the community honors their strength. Sarah said that supporting survivors at these annual events solidifies her place in the cause, and allows her to honor both her dad and her aunt.

Lorraine Tyne Bridal co-owner, Keisha Miles, is a proud Marist alum who founded the bridal company alongside another Marist graduate. “We [Lorraine Tyne Bridal and Sparkle My Head Scarves] created the Pink Kiss Event because of our mutual interests as women-based businesses, love for fashion, and personal connection to cancer survivors,” said Keisha about the runway event. Keisha hopes to raise awareness for breast cancer overall while honoring the cancer survivors.

On Oct. 21, the Pink Kiss Breast Cancer Awareness runway event has its 5th annual show at 6pm at Atlas Studios in Newburgh, New York.
