This weekend a violent storm ripped through Poughkeepsie and Dutchess county, causing damage and issues throughout the area.

The recent storm is predicted to be followed up with another storm coming sometime this week, but hopefully it won’t wreak as much havoc as our last bit of extreme weather.

Snow, wind, and rain dropped down on local Poughkeepsie, but the storm turned violent quickly during the day. It knocked down trees, bringing down power lines, and affecting those in the local community. It was by far the worst example of weather to strike Dutchess county during this year’s winter.

A tree went down on West Cedar Street and got wrapped up in power lines, causing damage and causing a power outage throughout some of houses on the street. Reports of power flickering in and out were a direct result of the tree disrupting the power lines.

The East entrance of the Fux Run at Fulton apartment property was temporarily closed for the weekend due to the minor damages done to its entrance gate. The tree, wrapped in power lines, posed a hazard to entering residents so it was closed off for a couple of days.

One area household felt the brunt of the storm’s wrath as a tree across the street come down hard on their house and caused some damage to their parked vehicles.

“The tree fell around about 1 o’clock and smacked into the house but didn’t break anything. It landed right on Tyler Spinelli’s car and kind of on mine. Other than that there was no damages other than power lines and our cars,” said Stefano Abruzzo, resident of 26 West Cedar Street.

The residents of 26 West Cedar Street also lost power for hours in their home and are still having problems getting their wireless internet back up and running.

Abruzzo suffered a broken back windshield, while Spinelli’s car sustained more damage.

The downed tree was removed quickly and the crew replaced a downed post. Electricity and power returned to the citizens of West Cedar Street.
