Not only is it one of the world’s most renowned cooking institutions, The Culinary Institute is always a great place to stop for a bite to eat. No reservations are required with a dine in or take out option at The Apple Pie Bakery Café. at The Culinary Institute of America’s most popular cafe reopened in January with a new look and new logo.

The modern design of the Apple Pie Bakery welcomes new and old customers with the exciting new look. Chef Waldy Malouf, the senior director of food and beverage operations for the CIA, discussed the new interior design. “About five months ago we started a complete renovation of Apple Pie. We gutted it and we wanted to bring it up to into the contemporary new look, new feel, and new way of operation,” said Malouf.

Those who have been to the Apple Pie Bakery remember long lines and crowded seating. Now the bakery has “divided the takeout from the dine in into two separate entrances.” Table services have also been an addition so customer no longer have to wait in line and students are able to experience the catering side of the food industry.

Stepping into the reinvigorated space feels like a first visit to a new restaurant, one that makes you feel happy and lively with all of the soft, bright colors. The bare dark wood and low light is now non existent. Everything is bright, light, and freshly painted to give a warm and welcoming feel.

The menu features its classic dishes as well as new food and drink items. Their famous macaroni and cheese is still on the menu, but appears to have received an upgrade — an oversized crock brims with cavatappi pasta, a sauce made with sharp, local white cheddar, and an aromatic persillade. The drink menu has also expanded, giving the customers more of a variety when it comes to coffee, teas or old beverages.

The place mats show illustrations drawn on the plates that are hung on the Culinary Institute’s “Wall of Fame.” Each plate is decorated with caricatures of various food celebrities throughout the years. The wall features chefs from Fannie Farmer to Gordon Ramsey.

The renovated space provides a new place for customers to eat, drink and socialize. It also improves the educational experience for students to learn fine dining.

With new food, ambiance, and a new look, one thing remains the same: the food is delicious as ever.
