A top destination for donuts in the Mid-Hudson Valley sits along Beacon’s main strip of shops and restaurants. Glazed Over Donuts is bustling, even on a late Wednesday afternoon. There is a constant flow of new customers into the shop, stopping by to sit near the window or take a box of donuts home to friends and family.

The woman working at the counter moves back and forth between pouring cups of coffee and taking orders. “The donut of the day has a strawberry glaze topped with cocoa pebbles, a vanilla and chocolate cereal,” she explains to a group of customers. “The donut is finished with a vanilla and chocolate drizzle.”

The unique donut of the day is designed by the shop’s staff as the only curated menu item. The rest is up to the customer. Those who choose to forego the donut of the day are presented with a clipboard and a list of different glazes, toppings, and drizzles to combine. One family stands to the side, focused and intent as they draw circles around their selections. The donut options are wide and varied: from lemon glaze to salted caramel chocolate drizzle, customers can truly create a perfect treat for their palette.

In the back of the shop, two children gather around a glass wall where onlookers can observe the chefs decorate each donut. The young girls squeal as a chef tops off a strawberry donut with a chocolate drizzle.

According to a chef, the donuts are homemade in-house every ten minutes or so, and each donut is made fresh and to-order. The steady stream of customers continues despite approaching the shop’s 5 p.m. closing time.
