In mid of May, the DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation) were launched an Indian first anti covid drug which is 2-deoxy D-glucose, which is good news for India because now Indian having a fight against the second wave of covid in India

what is 2-DG

The 2-DG is an abbreviation of 2-deoxy-D-glucose which is a glucose molecule where the OH group of the glucose is replaced H group to know how the 2-dg we should know some basic concept of how glucose is metabolized into energy molecule and how the virus molecule replicate in the living cell

Glucose metabolism

energy of cell
energy of cell

Glucose is the primary energy source where human begin it undergoes aerobic metabolism after it enters into a cell it moves into the mitochondria it undergoes glycolysis, Kerb cycle, and electron transport cycle where at the end 36 ATP where the energy is obtained by break phosphate band

Viral replication

viral replication is the biological process where the production of viral copies during infection this require energy for the replication is obtained from the cell energy cycle

HOW 2-deoxy-D-glucose

where it is an analog of glucose so it enters the living cell like glucose but it doesn’t form glucose 6 phosphates (glycolysis) because of the absence of OH in the second position so there is no energy is produced so the virus can’t undergo replication by this we can prevent the growth of viral growth

uses

difference between glucose and 2-deoxy-glucose

The 2DG is the drugs which having anticancer, antiviral properties where now it is used to cure solid cancer like breast cancer and lung cancer, and 2DG drugs are now at third trial for clinical use of covid and the past trials are showing high patient cure rate, we hope the drug will be available use in the mid of June and the is powder dosage where it very simple administration mix with water and take it still we can’t this will reduce the risk of the life, this, not a complete cure for COVID so we need to take care by wearing a mask, maintaining social Distancing and frequent wash of hand, we need to avoid the unnecessary Contacts with other people
