Anyone who’s ventured to SXSW knows the feeling: you arrive amid throngs of buzzing attendees, and as you take in the schedule, your head starts spinning. Everywhere you turn, there’s a new session you just can’t miss, a speaker you’re dying to see, or one of your favorite artists hitting the stage… all at the same time. The catch-22 of a conference this large and varied is that it’s almost impossible to leave feeling like you saw, tried, and accomplished everything you’d intended over a few days. There are too many wonderful opportunities!

What quickly follows is the modern form of anxiety — with a splash of envy — known as FOMO. A millennial term we’re all too familiar with, perfectly nailing that all-consuming feeling of restlessness that settles in when we feel our time might be used better. When we wish that instead of being here in this pretty hip reality, we could be over there having an even more amazing-looking experience.

FOMO may seem like an odd term to apply to two days of professional development, but with an exciting, city-wide conference like SERENDIPITY, it’s easy to feel like you won’t be able to cover everything. So, we’re going to make sure you don’t leave with FOMO. It will be hard, yes, because it’s likely you’ll want to try every session just like you would at SXSW. Here’s how we’ll do it.

Given that we’re the GUILD, a networking platform that analyzes your career, interests, and goals for networking to put you together with 1:1 throughout the month, we have an edge. We know algorithms, so why not trust us to take this matching idea and apply it to your schedule?

For all of you schedule junkies out there, here’s a sneak peek:

You’ll notice that this schedule is packed, but doesn’t have any of the specifics in it. You’ll get the full list of speakers and bios online, and that’s when things get interesting. Once you get your two-day pass, we’ll start asking questions.

What do you do? What do you want to learn? What inspires you? What are your desired outcomes for SERENDIPITY?

From this information, we’ll build your perfect schedule, selecting sessions we think will challenge and inspire you. (Don’t worry, you’ll be able to make your own changes, too!) This means that, for example, if you’re an investment banker, we’re not going to keep you comfortable by sending you to four sessions on funding and finance. You may get one or two of these in our FOUNDERS MEET FUNDERS house, but your day might also include a calligraphy workshop or a1:1 coffee break with someone from the marketing industry.

In short, we’re mixing it up. Part of the reason you sign up for SERENDIPITY is to let us help you with the smart decisions you may not come to yourself.

Let us surprise you. Let us take you out of your element, and enjoy the journey!
