As we continue on our rocky transition from winter to spring, there is one thing that is becoming increasingly apparent — this stuff is hard work.

The arts-related event has been launched and officially titled Horizons. The team is hard at work pulling together sponsors and partners to make this event a special one. “Clap” for this post if you’re excited to see what our design team has planned for the official website. Maybe we’ll give you a teaser by our next blog post!

The workshops held last week also went extremely well.

Our Director of Technology, Joel Ye, weighed in on the workshops’ impact. “[These] events are focused on providing the tools that students need to succeed in our hackathons and also professionally. Our rewind series was a teaser to this idea, collecting some of the best workshops from HackGT5, but going forward [our workshops] will often be focused on helping students ramp up to our larger events. The purpose is to help redistribute the overflowing amount of content from one weekend to across an entire week, leading to more productive, informed, and sustainable work during hackathons. [Our goal] is reaching out across disciplines and providing information to help creators of all kinds broaden their perspectives on the kind of amazing work that is being done and can be done.”

If you stopped by the Student Center last week, you may have noticed that we held a Garage Sale. It was very successful and yielded a large turnout; we want to thank everyone who came by to check out our hardware. It was truly exciting to see motivated students, whether it be for their own personal projects or research labs, participating in on-campus initiatives. The money raised from the sale will go towards new and awesome hardware to be featured at BuildGT 2. If you are interested in participating in our second annual hardware hackathon, register here!
