Many students have already downloaded and explored the beta version of the school’s new app, launched last Friday in the Stoddard Center to fanfare and giveaways.

Members of the university community can use the app by downloading it from the Google or Apple App Store, or just by visiting app.svu.edu in any browser.

While it has a similar feel to other social apps, there are some interesting features that can help you get the most out of it as a tool. Here are five that have helped me:

Mute channels

You don’t have to get notifications from every single group or event. Tap the notification bell in the corner to turn off notifications from any group you’d rather not hear from on a daily basis.

Subscribe to calendars

Want to know what’s going on around campus? Tap “Events” in the left sidebar, tap the filter symbol on the right, and check the box or the plus next to calendars you’re interested in.

Use the search bar

Not sure where your classroom is? Wondering what the Wi-Fi password is? Ask the app! The search bar will direct you to the right place.

Add shortcuts

Over time, you’re going to use certain groups and pages more than others. Add your favorites as “Shortcuts” by tapping the star icon while viewing their section of the app.

Check your student email and Canvas courses right from the app

The Knight App is already connected with your school gmail and Canvas accounts. Tap on the “Dashboard” and get a quick centralized look:

And, most importantly, please report any suggestions you have for the app via our feedback tool on the Dashboard. We are very excited about what this new app can do for our campus community!
