One of the most difficult transitions for students moving to Southern Virginia University is adjusting to life in a small town. A majority of students come from parts of the country that are very large, with a myriad of things to do. After living in Buena Vista and attending school at Southern Virginia University for three years, Sebastian Noble (’22) decided that it was time to add a bit of fun to this little town and opened Axe Warehouse in Buena Vista.

On top of his already busy schedule, being a Business major and a member of the men’s volleyball team, Noble started brainstorming for his first company. In early 2021, his idea of a local entertainment venue was set. By the end of the year, Axe Warehouse was opened.

Axe throwing has been rising in popularity all over the United States and, in some states, you can even join leagues and compete against other teams. I was able to talk with Sebastian about Axe Warehouse and how it came about.

What’s your business and when did it start?

“We are an axe throwing venue, we pride ourselves in providing a safe and fun experience while enjoying an amazing environment. We also make sure everyone is able to stick on wood. Axe throwing has been around since the Viking days, but in the last 5 years it’s been increasing in popularity in the US.”

What are your hours and location?

“We are located right on downtown Buena Vista, right behind the Edward Jones financial or right past Domino’s Pizza.”

Hours:

Friday 4–11 p.m.

Saturday 2–11 p.m.

Sunday 12–5 p.m.

Why did you want to start your business?

“I’ve always dreamed of running my own show, when I was 6 I would get news off the internet, print them out and sell a “newspaper” for a dollar a piece to my family. I was fascinated with management and doing your own thing.”

How has business been since starting?

“Since opening business has been great! We’ve felt the love from the town and the students at the colleges around us. We are incredibly grateful for all of our customers.”

Axe Warehouse is open to all (as long as you wear closed toe shoes), and is a great location for a date night, some family fun or even for some stress relief. Next time you have a chance, head downtown and see if you can beat Sebastian’s record of 12 bullseyes in a row!
