A problem that every student who lives in a dorm without a kitchen faces is dealing with caf food. These students are required to have a meal plan so they have somewhere to eat, but they don’t eat there consistently due to the low quality of food in the school cafeteria. Oftentimes, there are low portions or bad food is served, undercooked, overcooked, or moldy. But there is a punch to do something about this major cafe issue.

A recent addition to campus has been the Culinary Council. This council first met on February 15th and will continue to meet biweekly (1:30 on Thursdays in the Main Hall conference room). The goal is to make sure that students are provided with good and healthy food that meets their needs. Whenever you see a problem with food or have any questions, you can reach out to any of the council members. Carter Johnson (’26, Biology), a member of the Culinary Council, said that when you inform members of the council, members “in turn can inform the people in charge to ensure that the food experience is a good experience for all.”

The members of the council, including Carter Johnson, are: Dusty Frazier, Sierra Stevens, Jake Barney, Mark Murdock, Kekai Baker, Mike Griffith, April Harris, Taylor Giles, Rock Giles, Cody Whiting, and Benjamin Whitted.

Once again, people are encouraged to reach out when they have problems. Johnson said, “Instead of…just complaining about caf food, take pictures of problems that you see and take it to committee members.” This will ensure that something is actually being done. Check out other students’ thoughts on campus dining below. And don’t hesitate to talk to any of these council members!
