The Women’s Volleyball team at Southern Virginia University has a culture that has not been taken lightly when looking at the run they’ve had this season. The women have an overall record of 22–4 on the season, standing at the number 1 spot in the 2021 USA South Volleyball Standings (East Division).

Julia Monson (‘21), who is the team captain as well as an outside hitter for the Southern Virginia volleyball team, expressed positive thoughts concerning her team and the culture they have established. Monson mentioned, “The culture our coach, as well as other girls have brought on the team, is a culture of wanting to win, to work hard, and to put in the effort and hours required.”

Even with a team that has proved their presence at the top in the conference standings, team culture has and will continue to play an important role for them leading into the end of their season.

The Women’s volleyball team faced off Averett University on Tuesday, Nov. 2 as Southern Virginia hosted the USA South Conference Quarterfinals in the Knight Arena. Southern Virginia won 3–0, advancing the team to the semifinals. Watch the replay here. The Knights’ next game is against the Scots on Nov. 5 at 6:30 p.m.
