Last week we covered nutrition on a budget and this week we are talking about fitness and working out!

Often we associate health and fitness with high-end products and expensive gym memberships, but that isn’t the only acceptable version of health and fitness. Fancy equipment and a $40 pre-workout may not be an option, but that doesn’t mean you won’t be able to find a form of movement that you love!

Here are some ways to help find the best fitness program for you!

YouTube & Instagram

There are so many different kinds of workouts for FREE on YouTube. Whether you’re looking to try dance, calisthenics, high fitness, or weightlifting, there are so many helpful teachers and resources for you to try. Instagram also has loads of creators who specialize in fitness and provide countless free workouts to try!

Use the School Gym

As a student, we all have access to the school facilities. Though our gym has limited open times, if you make a plan and schedule the time it’s a great, free option. Below is the current gym schedule for this semester (2021–22):

The Great Outdoors

Going on a walk, running, playing frisbee with friends, or just spending time outside coupled with some form of movement is a great way of getting some exercise. For Southern Virginia students, there are always the two trails by the Lofts, Chessie Trail, or the workout field are always available.

Try an Inexpensive Workout Program

Workout programs are great for beginners and experienced students alike. Personally, I use and recommend Les Mills. It’s a great program that has resources for all kinds of workouts. I have linked the website in case you want to try it out!

Your relationship with fitness is a journey that will continue to evolve. Try to make movement a habit and priority even in this busy stage of life. The truth is, there will never be a “right time” to start working out. Your life will just keep getting busier. So make the choice to prioritize fitness and bless your body with the movement it needs to thrive.
