The discount candy has been sold, the decorations have come down, and you’ve just heard your first Christmas song. Halloween has come and gone, but that doesn’t mean your Halloween spirit has to go with it! Here are five ways to maintain that trick-or-treat vibe post spooky season.

Local Fall Flavors

Lots of businesses are starting to bring out their seasonal flavors. Straws and the BeeVe both have limited-time flavors for the duration of November. The Buena Vista farmers’ market, held on Thursday afternoons at the lot by the public library, also typically includes a number of baked goods vendors who are likely to have some seasonal treats.

Blue Oyster Cult’s Fire of Unknown Origin (Album)

Listening to this album has been a Halloween tradition for me since I was a teenager. Any classic rock fan is sure to enjoy this record. With songs about hauntings, extraterrestrials, mysterious criminal acts, and a woman rising from the dead, this album is perfect for this time of year.

John Carpenter’s The Thing (Movie)

Though the movie doesn’t have anything particularly autumnal about it, it has all the other makings of a great Halloween movie. The basic premise of the movie involves a group of researchers at a remote laboratory in Antarctica. The research team discovers an extraterrestrial being with the capacity to shapeshift and imitate any animal it comes in contact with. It’s worth a mention that the movie is rated R, for profanity and violence, but is certainly on the milder side of that rating.

Goosebumps Books and Movies

I grew up being a big fan of the Goosebumps series. Something about the corniness of the stories makes me really nostalgic for my childhood days when the stories would keep me up at night. If these were a part of your childhood too, it might be worth revisiting a few of them.

Over the Garden Wall (TV Show)

If you’ve seen this show before, you’re probably not surprised to see it on this list. Even though Over the Garden Wall is a TV show, it only consists of ten episodes, which are each about ten minutes long, so it can easily be finished in one sitting. Without giving away too much of the plot, the show is about two brothers who are lost in the woods trying to make their way home and dealing with a variety of paranormal events on the way home.

Let us know some of your favorite ways to hold onto that Halloween spirit!
