Hardens: Gastropub Opens in Lexington

Located in the heart of Lexington, Virginia, Hardens stands out as an ‘elevated gastropub’ offering a unique culinary experience to locals and visitors alike. Owned by the dedicated team, Bill and Jessica Harden, the restaurant officially opened its doors on February 7, 2024, marking a new chapter in the couple’s culinary journey.
Inspired by their love for food and hospitality, the Hardens embarked on this journey after testing the waters with their sandwich shop, Legendary Eats. The timing for Hardens’ opening aligned perfectly, and despite initial apprehensions, the couple knew it was meant to be. Although they initially envisioned a bar, Virginia’s laws led them to create a full-service restaurant instead, catering to a diverse range of palates.
With one of the largest bars in town and a cozy yet elegant ambiance, diners are welcomed into a space that seamlessly combines the friendliness of the South with the sophistication of New York City. The large dining table fosters a sense of community, where guests can gather to enjoy handcrafted cocktails and an extensive menu of scratch-made dishes.
The menu at Hardens is a combination of the couple’s and Executive Chef Matt Schaffner’s culinary passions. Some dishes, like the Steak Frites and Smash Burger, cater to classic comfort food cravings. Others, such as the Korean Rice Bowl and Ahi Tuna Sandwich, offer a journey through Asian flavors.
Hardens focuses on the day-to-day experience, ensuring that each visit is special in its own right. Ultimately, the Hardens hope that every guest leaves Harden’s feeling like they’ve been welcomed into a second home, where good food and great company await.
