Southern Virginia University’s 2021 fall semester was jam-packed with new adventures. I interviewed Heidi Barton (’25) and Dylan May (’24) and got an insight into their experiences last semester.

“My first semester of college was definitely an adventure. My adventures ranged anywhere from late night Cookout cravings to spontaneous camping trips. I did so much last semester that I can’t even remember it all. I feel like a far inferior version of Phineas talking to Ferb when I ask my friends what we should conquer each day. I met so many amazing people and did so many cool things. I couldn’t have asked for a better semester,” says Heidi Barton.

“All I can say about last semester is that I was blessed. Between school, church, and running, I’ve met so many amazing people that I feel will be lifelong friends. I got to be part of a great cross country team full of inspiring men and women. It’s truly a blessing to be a part of the wonderful culture here at Southern Virginia University,” adds Dylan May

Some of their favorite adventures included, but were certainly not limited to:

  • Smashing pumpkins
  • Winning the cross country championship
  • Having a disco party on the parkway
  • Movie nights
  • Bonfires
  • Exploring an abandoned warehouse
  • Bridge jumping
  • Trips to Cookout

The college experience is what you make of it. There is so much going on all the time, especially here at SouthernVirginia University, if you just stop and look for it. The Fall 2021 semester exemplified exactly that. As the Spring semester is beginning, what adventures will you embark on? It might be as simple as saying hello to someone new, or exploring something extravagant like a haunted tunnel.
