Meeting people on campus can be hard with the hustle and bustle of college life. Especially when it becomes busy and stressful. With so many activities, classes, and assignments, it can be hard finding the time to connect with others. That’s why we would like you to meet Haley Brown, a freshman from Pennsylvania who is always ready to chat and share a meal.

Haley is the youngest of four siblings. She is majoring in Family and Human Development, a field that emphasizes education, psychology, and sociology. Her grad year is 2027 and she came to SVU for the small class sizes and the ability to have closer relationships with her professors.

“I like the small class sizes at SVU because it gives me more opportunities to get to know my classmates and form connections with my teachers.” -Haley Brown

“Haley asks complex critical thinking types of questions in class and she does her homework with that kind of thoroughness. She’s very inquisitive and just shows an eagerness to learn.” -Karen Walker

Haley’s favorite professor is Dr. Karen Walker, professor of FHD, and her favorite class was Child and Adolescent Development. She liked this class because she learned a lot of good insight on the way that children learn. It was also a class that will help with her future career. After college, she wants to be an elementary school teacher, and right now she is thinking about 1st or 2nd grade.

“I want to be a teacher because I want to be able to make an impact on young kids and teach them to be lifelong learners.” — Haley Brown

Haley is shy until she gets to know people, but once she does, she is very kind and friendly. She is organized, caring, and thoughtful. Her interests include reading and cooking. Her favorite genre of books are nonfiction and she prefers paperbacks over hardcovers. Some of her favorite dishes to make are white chicken chili, baked potato soup, and enchiladas. Her favorite food is pasta. Her favorite restaurant in the area is Maccadoos. She also enjoys getting breakfast from the campus cafe.

Haley is a sweet girl who has a lot to offer the SVU community. She is always open to meeting new people and making new friends, you just have to help pull her out of her shell a little. Look around campus and you may see this familiar face and maybe you’ll make a new friend! Don’t hesitate to say hi or start a conversation with her, you might end up having a lot in common and becoming best friends.
