Mental Health Enthusiast: Elle Chukuong
By Dillon Seawright
With the start of school ramping up, I had the privilege to interview Elle Chukuong (‘24), a Southern Virginia junior from South Jordan, Utah.
Elle is a psychology major and a player for the University’s field hockey team. Although Elle has been here at Southern Virginia for three years, this is her first year with the field hockey team.
As I was interviewing Elle, I learned about her goals and strong passions for her major. Elle shared her short term goals; strive and grow in field hockey, academics, and intellectual levels. As far as long term goals, Elle plans to continue her education into graduate school, later planning to start a family and creating a career to support them.
When asked about her passions, Elle responded: “I take passion in education and believe everyone should get educated or educate themselves in some form.” As a psychology major, Elle is also passionate about the mental and physical wellbeing of individuals. She believes that “spreading kindness to others can help make the world a better place; how you treat people can have a long-lasting effect on them.”
Towards the end of our interview, I asked Elle some quick fun facts. In turn, I learned that Elle enjoys Southern Virginia because of the scenery and weather, along with the small class sizes. For hobbies, Elle enjoys hanging out with friends, going to the gym, playing field hockey, skating, shopping, going to the river, and going to Cookout every now and then.
At the conclusion of our conversation, I realized how interesting interviewing people can be. It’s amazing what you can learn from the people around you.
