The new MLB jerseys suck.

Nike has changed Major League Baseball’s jerseys for the 2024 season. They have decided to use what are called Vapor Premier Uniforms. The new design provides players with a design built with 25% more “stretch,” and the jersey will dry out sweat and water 28% faster than previous models. Although these new jerseys are made with a better material, the design has people in complete awe with how silly they look.

The photo above is one of the reasons why many are saying that this new design is ridiculous. On the left is a jersey from the 2023 baseball season, and on the right is displayed the new 2024 version. Justin Verlander’s last name is bent around the number making it look a little strange from previous years. Nobody seems to know why they have made this change in the lettering.

Another big issue is the change in baseball pants.

The new style of pants are almost completely see-through. In the photo above, you can see part of the Phillies team getting ready for their media day. You can see half of the players’ jerseys through their pants. On a couple, you can even see the outline of their underwear. This is absolutely crazy!

Malia Davis, ’28 BioChem, a member of SVU’s softball team, states that the new pants that the players wear look super cheap. Malia stated, “It’s kind of a joke or almost a prank that you can see through them, even seeing outlines of some players’ underwear is crazy.”

Ryan Farris, ’28 Business Major, a member of the SVU baseball team, has a heavy opinion on this matter. He stated “MLB’s new player jerseys make it look like they got them off of a knockoff website for sports memorabilia. The names look crooked in a bunch of pictures, and in some cases the numbers look sort of funky.” Ryan stated that his favorite MLB team is the Atlanta Braves, he was happy when he found out that the Braves were pushing to keep the same lettering and overall display design that the team has used in previous seasons.

Although the Nike Fanatics company has received a large amount of backlash for this change, they claim to have built the jersey design off of exactly what they were told to do from the MLB offices.

What do you think about this new change?
