My Worst Spring Break

The worst spring break I have ever had was my junior year of highschool. When I was in highschool, our baseball team would host an annual spring break tournament that raised us a bunch of money. This had been a thing since about 2004 or 2005 and at this point it was 2018, so it had been around for a very long time. Usually the varsity team would play a game or 2, but that year there were I think 23 teams, so there was just no way we could fit in there with that many teams playing multiple games in the span of only 7 days. With our school being the hosts of the tournament, we had to be there for every single game to make sure the foul balls got grabbed and that the field was set up between every game played. Well this was fine as it was mostly enjoyable spending all day at the baseball field. The problem came when we were watering the field on the 4th day at about 2 in the afternoon or so. My head coach at the time had the hose and was watering the infield like we normally do and I was standing right behind him helping move the hose around.
One thing to keep in mind is that this hose was pretty heavy; it was an old firehose. While we were doing our thing the housing spigot burst and water started coming from the ground up. Before we got it turned off, it somehow blew the main waterline in the infield and water started coming up around second base. The worst part of all of this was that when the line blew off, there was a lot of pressure built up in the hose line just like any other firehose does. The hose came up under us and hit both me and 2 other teammates in the nuts and dropped us instantly. After about 45 minutes of pain, our coach had our whole team stay there the rest of the day digging the waterline out of second base. It took us until 1:30 in the morning and we came back at 6:30 am to prep the field for the games that had to be made up, plus the ones that needed to be played. Now this probably doesn’t sound that bad, but my 2 teammates and I were hurting pretty bad for a few days. We had to sit out the rest of the week and all 3 of us had a hard time getting around the rest of spring break- officially making that the worst spring break I’ve ever had.
