Need Something to Binge?
By Oli Byrd
Spring semester is in full swing, which means we all need something to fill our time while we procrastinate doing our homework for as long as we can. Since the weather is pretty crappy right now, indoor activities are the way to go, so why not binge a whole season of a new show in one sitting? Here are recommendations from a couple of students around campus.
#1. Criminal Minds
If you like crime shows, Flo Torres (’25, graphic design) — a member of the women’s track team — says you should look into Criminal Minds. You should watch it because “it has a little bit of everything: comedy, thriller, action, and drama, so it keeps you interested.” Criminal Minds can be watched on Hulu or Paramount+.
#2. Attack On Titan
For all you anime lovers, Callum Hyland (’25, history education), a member of the football team, recommends watching Attack On Titan. He says:
“It is such a beautifully written story with some insane plot twists. The entire time of watching the show, you have no idea what to expect and are always shocked to learn of what comes next. Not only that but the focus on freedom and if it is real gets one thinking. Are we actually able to choose and obtain freedom or are we stuck to fate and destiny designed to follow the natural law? Not only are you conscious of this, but you are also stuck morally questioning what you would do if you were in the protagonist’s shoes. This show makes you question who you really are and what you actually believe is right. If one can look past the anime and accept its amazing story they will be emotionally attached. Your emotions will be tested but it is so worth the watch!”
You can find Attack On Titan on Crunchyroll, Hulu, and Amazon Prime.
#3. Friends
If you need something to binge three seasons of and not feel guilty, Sydney Pope (’24, family and human development) has got you covered with the show Friends. In her words, “Everyone should watch Friends because it is comedic gold! The show is very relatable, and the characters have an unbreakable friendship that everyone desires to have!” Where to watch it: Max, Prime, Apple TV, and Hulu.
#4. The Bachelor
When she’s not dropping buckets for the women’s basketball team, Abby Snyder (25’, business management) likes to watch The Bachelor. She says, “People should watch it because it’s super entertaining, especially when you watch it with other people. Plus, there’s always new drama each week that you and your friends can make fun of. It’s fun to try and guess who is going to get sent home at the end of each week and who’s going to make it to the end.” The Bachelor is aired each Monday at 8 pm on ABC, but you can find all of the previous seasons on Hulu as well.
#5. Vikings
If you are a fan of period pieces, you should check out the show Vikings on Hulu. Vikings is my absolute favorite show of all time, with a deep and beautifully written story. The characters are developed so well that you get attached to every single one of them. There is enough action to keep you entertained, but not enough to oversaturate the show with violence. Vikings is one of those shows that hooks you from the first episode to the final credits. There may or may not have been a couple tears shed throughout the course of the show, so be prepared!
