We congratulate all who ran for student body president this school year. It takes not only ambition, but also allowing yourself to be vulnerable enough to run for that position. The election featured 3 candidates, all running on different platforms. These included:

  • A theme
  • The topic of inclusion for everyone at the school
  • New activities for next school year
  • Being open to every idea no matter who they are

The battle was waged over social media in the days leading up to the election and with offers of pizza. It was clear who stood with what candidate as post-re-shares on who to vote for were circulating on Instagram in the hours leading up to the polls opening. I received several texts asking for my vote, and it turns out, every vote did matter.

On Thursday night, we thought we would have a new student body president. It turns out that was not the case. It went into a runoff between Brinley Pulispher and Steven Rasmussen in a run-off election. In the end, it was Pulsipher who received 50% of the vote and was elected the new student body president to replace Will Edwards.

“I am grateful to have served Southern Virginia University in this position, and I am happy that the position is going to someone as awesome as Brinley!” says Will Edward.

We also congratulate Benjamin Whitted for winning Vice President!

“I ran because I believe Southern Virginia University students are looking for representatives who are committed to being active in their roles and following through with what they say they’ll do. I plan to create concrete action by first establishing a strong culture of consistency and accountability among class representatives,” says Whitted.
