Sawyer Ferry (‘23), originally from Logan, UT, is a wrestler at Southern Virginia University.

Before and after Ferry served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Canada from 2019-2020, the wrestling coach at Southern Virginia, Logan Davis, reached out to him in a recruiting effort and Ferry decided this was where he wanted to wrestle.

Ferry had other options, including Brigham Young University, but chose Southern Virginia for numerous reasons. One stemmed from his refusal to stay in Utah. He also wanted the opportunity to learn more about himself at a different location, further away from family.

I asked him what is something a lot of people don’t know about him and he answered “I have an awful back.” This is common in most wrestlers, due to the strain of their stance and their heads being pulled down all the time, so it brought me little to no surprise.

I asked him what the coolest thing he’s ever done is, and he said getting married to his wife Karalie in December of 2021.

Ferry stated that being able to wrestle in college is something that has been super cool for him and his Southern Virginia experience.

Apart from wrestling, Ferry enjoys hiking and has been doing it for as long as he could remember. Ferry is driven to work hard as a student-athlete and is a great addition to the Southern Virginia University culture.
