What is your name?

Quentin Acree

Where are you from?

Tampa, FL

What are a few things about you that people should know?

I played college basketball for 3 years and now serve as one of the Assistant Coaches for SVU men’s basketball. Outside of basketball, I own my own vintage clothing reselling business named “Aged Grails” and I have my own YouTube channel where I post videos about sneakers and vintage clothing. Lastly, I love shoes. I collect them and have a pretty good collection so far.

Do you take time to pick out what you’re going to wear before each day or a game?

I only take my time when I know I am going somewhere. For something like school, I just throw on a hoodie and sweatpants. When I get ready for game day, I definitely take my time because I like to stand out on the sideline with my sneakers. I try to pick out the best polo shirt and sneaker combination.

Dress up or dress down?

Dress down 100%. I love rocking a hoodie and sweats with slides. I just like feeling as comfortable as possible. With dress down attire, that’s when I feel the most free and comfortable.

Favorite ways of finding new pieces to add to your wardrobe?

First, I think it’s important to know that I ONLY wear vintage or thrift clothing. I haven’t been to a mall or bought from a clothing corporation directly in 6–7 years. For new pieces, I do a lot of different things. Back at home, in Florida, I would go to about 4–5 thrift stores a week in order to find some new pieces. If I struck out, then I would go to my local vintage shops around the Tampa-St. Pete area. If I buy online I am shopping from Depop and vintage online stores.

Who do you find inspiration from in pop culture? Do you style your fits after anyone in particular?

I don’t draw inspiration away from any one person. To be honest, I love to go on Google and type “Black 90s outfits’ and try to find the pieces I already own, looking at the images of that Google search for inspiration. However, there is one creative influencer I enjoy and that’s Sean Wotherspoon. He’s just different from the “norm” in today’s fashion. Who he is as a person and what he stands for, I appreciate as well.

If I looked in your wardrobe what brands, eras would I find and see?

The era you would see in my closet is the 90s. The late 80s and all throughout the 90s eras I find interesting. It doesn’t follow a trend or anything like that, those individuals just wore what they liked and that’s how I like to shop and dress as well. As far as brands of shoes, you’ll see Nike, Jordan, Addias, New Balance. As far as my clothing, I have a lot of vintage sports tees and crewnecks that don’t have a particular brand or anything like that.

Vintage or modern? Why?

VINTAGE ALL DAY! The style and designs of shirts and crewnecks were MUCH better in the past than now. Another reason is that I love the hunt of trying to find these vintage pieces from the 1980s-1990s. It’s a process I enjoy a lot. Lastly, I like vintage because the clothing doesn’t depreciate when you wear them. Now that there is a market for vintage clothing, when I buy vintage I know if I no longer want a piece I can sell it for what I paid ( in most cases I can sell it for more). Hype streetwear brands depreciate, when you wear it the item loses value but with vintage that doesn’t happen,I like that.

What is your favorite piece of clothing in your wardrobe?

My favorite clothing pieces in my closet are all of my Black History vintage. It’s what I collect and I am a huge advocate and learner of my people. By collecting vintage items of my people’s past, I get to have some of that history with me.

Any tips for someone who wants to dress better?

STOP trying to follow trends! Just buy and wear what you enjoy. That is what makes clothing and fashion fun. Don’t look to impress anyone, just impress yourself.
