On October 28th, a beautiful Saturday morning during Alumni Weekend, Southern Virginia University held a light breakfast for current seniors and alumni, though the event was open to all. From the looks of it, it was mostly seniors in attendance. Many of the alumni who were present were those who had graduated from SVU and stayed pretty close to the area.

There was a table set up in the lobby of Main Hall with a spread of various doughnuts, muffins, fruits, and juices. There was a second table nearby where attendees were encouraged to make a name card for themselves. Those who were visiting as alumni were given different cards that had a space for them to write the years they were at SVU so that others could better identify and socialize with their former classmates.

Being a senior myself, I had the opportunity to speak with a few fellow seniors and a couple of alumni. A small group of us sat down together and spoke about our times at SVU and our senior projects. It was great to be able to hear about the experiences of former students from other disciplines and to learn about their lives since graduation, and how SVU has helped them to make progress towards their careers and desired paths in life.

All of these things, as well as a brief visit from SVU’s new president, made for an enjoyable time for all of those who attended.
