What’s the first thing that pops into your head when you think of the term red flag? Have you ever been called a red flag and thought to yourself, What does that even mean? Well, I took matters into my own hands and gathered information on what the phrase “red flag” means.

Urban Dictionary defines the term red flag as “a sign of warning or any impending danger, disaster, or doom.” I decided to confirm this definition. I would ask some of our very own women here at SVU what their definition of red flag was. Here are some of their responses:

“When looking for a guy to date, you must be cautious of their red flags. A red flag can be something that a person does or says that makes them undesirable to date.”

“A red flag is a certain characteristic of a guy that makes you feel less inclined to pursue a future with [him].”

Now that you and I understand what a red flag is, Let’s look at what are some of our female SVU students’ red flags when looking for a relationship. I interviewed a few different people and picked the most consistent answers. So here it is, The SVU Girls Top 5 Red Flags.

If he takes you to a lookout spot on the first date.

If he asks you on a date and then takes you to the BlueRidge Parkway any later than 9 PM, simply run in the opposite direction of him. That man is a scrub. Bonus points if he hits you with the, “This is where I come to be alone with my thoughts. I’ve never taken anyone up here.” Translation: He has taken every woman that looks in his general direction to this exact spot. Good luck.

“He just doesn’t take pictures of himself” or “He looks a lot better in person”

Imagine this scenario: You are hanging out with your fellow girl friends and you want to tell them about a certain someone in your life. If you are preparing to show them a picture and you know you are going to have to use either of those phrases to defend your crush…immediate red flag.

When he uses a 3-in-1 shampoo, conditioner, and body wash.

This was a very popular vote within the SVU female population. Here is what we decided: If he can’t buy himself more than one product to maintain proper hygiene, get strapped in for some frugal date nights, ladies.

If he carries around a milk carton and uses it as a “water bottle”

C’mon guys be a man — buy a real water bottle.

Last but certainly not least, we have the answer that was statistically said the most by our SVU females. This is not meant to be hateful or an attack on anyone or anything. I’m just true to the numbers, so without further ado our final female red flag is…

The SVU Men’s Lacrosse Team.

That’s all. Thanks for reading. :)
