We all grew up watching the Cars movies. They played a special role in my childhood and watching them now gives me a feeling of nostalgia. Recently, I got into a slightly heated debate about which one was the best movie. There is only one correct answer to that question, and it is the first movie.

Cars

Cars is one of the greatest Pixar movies ever, and anyone who says otherwise is wrong and your opinion does not matter. The growth of Lightning McQueen throughout the movie is masterfully written and demonstrates how a character should be properly developed. His going from a spoiled, cocky upstart who thought he was better than everyone to a humble racer who gave up a piston cup to help the king finish his last race is absolutely beautiful.

Cars 2

The plot of the other two Cars movies can’t compete with the first one. I think we can all agree that the second is miles better than the third though. While the second movie puts a different spin on the Cars world and brings in espionage to the racetrack, it does not reach the depth of emotion that the first movie does. The second movie does, however, do a good job of moving the plot forward.

Cars 3

The third movie is not good in any way, shape, or form and anyone who likes it should be imprisoned and never let out. Cars 3 is everything that is wrong with the trilogy. They turn Lightning McQueen into an old fart who can’t handle being beaten by a younger faster racer. The growth and development that they created for him through the first two movies was destroyed without a second thought.

Rankings

If you do not want to read all of that, here’s a simple ranking of the movies.

  1. Cars
  2. Cars 2
  3. Literally any other movie about cars
  4. nature documentaries
  5. idk, online lectures
  6. ……
  7. Cars 3

Cars 1 is up there with the best of the best and will go down as one of the greatest movies of all time. Although its legacy has been slightly tarnished from the other two movies in the trilogy, it will always be a timeless classic.

You can find the entire trilogy on Disney+. Let us know in the comments which movie you think is the best!
