College basketball has officially entered a new era. That era is the era of Caitlin Clark. The electrifying women’s basketball player has cemented her name in history by surpassing the most iconic record in the NCAA: Pistol Pete Maravich’s all-time scoring record.

Pistol Pete’s scoring record had stood alone for decades. Thought to be unbeatable. However, nobody thought that someone like Caitlin Clark would emerge from Iowa. In a matter of just a few years, Caitlin Clark has won the hearts of infamously critical college basketball fans as the best NCAA player to ever play.

Caitlin Clark’s record-breaking accomplishment is much more than just an individual award. It shows the true evolution of women’s basketball and garners more respect for the sport. In an era where female athletes feel disenfranchised despite their high level of talent, Clark’s achievement shows that the women’s game deserves the same respect as men’s.

A few days after breaking the NCAA scoring record, Clark announced that she would be entering the WNBA draft after finishing this season with the University of Iowa. She is widely expected to be the first overall pick and will surely change the league.

Caitlin Clark’s journey from a young basketball player to the sharpshooting phenom we now know continues to inspire the next generation of athletes. Her legacy is sure to be remembered.
