The shadows of the four ancient dragons blot out the light from the sun over the capital. The group of nobles and heroes gathered below, looking up in horror as the dragons descend upon the city. The acid drips down and melts people right before their eyes. Frost and lightning mingle, sending shocks of cold and arcs of electricity ripping through the crowds. The embers fall as the fire burns and melts the castle.

The party that just saved the day looks on in disbelief as the vampiric threat they just stopped now looks like a joke compared to this new one. They’re shocked when their strongest member’s ax shatters on the scales of the dragon and it simply laughs at their efforts. They flee like the common folk, frostbite nipping at their heels, to a portal, their last hope before total annihilation. They sprint towards it and dive as the dragon’s breath envelops them.

Did that catch your interest? If so, then you will enjoy “The Legend of Vox Machina” that is now streaming on Amazon Prime. “Legend of Vox Machina” is an amazing animated show that is based on the group known as Critical Role– a bunch of nerdy voice actors that get together and play Dungeons & Dragons (D&D). With their major jump in popularity landing them with millions of followers and subscribers, Critical Role was able to crowdfund over 11 million dollars to animate their first campaign. With this amount of support behind them, Amazon saw Critical Role’s potential and jumped in to animate and work with the Critical Role community.

If you’ve watched Amazon original shows recently, you have probably seen the likes of Invincible or The Boys. “Legend of Vox Machina” is another smash hit from them. The animation style of this show is great and brings the characters to life. However, this show has a different feel than the others because it is an animated version of Dungeons and Dragons. It has a more human and natural feel because it is more human. This series lends itself to more natural humor and it works really well!

This is definitely an adult show… Be prepared for gore and death as they don’t shy away from melting people alive with acid. There is some adult language and humor as well, but it all works together well to make you laugh. The story is amazing, even though season one takes a bit of time to really get started. But season two doesn’t make you wait, you are plunged into the action and adventure immediately.

If you have ever wanted to play D&D and haven’t had the chance or think it’s not for you, take this show as an opportunity to check it out. You get to see the story really come to life through the wonderful animation and get a feel for what the game is like. Even if you aren’t a fan of Critical Role or D&D, don’t stress. This show will make you feel right at home regardless. If you like action and adventure set in a fantasy world, this is the show for you.
