As the Super Bowl approaches, many people are anticipating Usher’s performance. Usher has been a certifiable icon since the 90’s when he released his first big hit “You Make Me Wanna,” launching him into stardom. Through the years, Usher exploded into one of the biggest pop stars still alive today. For him to play the halftime show at the Super Bowl is not the biggest shock in the world. We already know that any performance Usher gives is going to be iconic. The real question is, will Usher bring out any guest stars? And if so, who?

Many people on TikTok want him to bring out Justin Bieber. I can’t really say I blame them seeing how Bieber’s song “Somebody To Love” featuring Usher peaked at number 15 on the Billboard Top 100 chart and was certified platinum. Justin owes a lot of the credit of his stardom to Usher. If you have ever watched Justin’s movie “Never say Never,” we see Usher as somewhat of a father figure to him. To this day, the two are close as Usher is a mentor to the younger star. What I’ve seen most is the phrase “Usher better bring out his son.” Could Bieber’s close relationship with Usher and the fact they have a hit song together mean we could see a JB appearance?

However, anybody who is anybody has heard Usher’s song “Yeah!” featuring Lil Jon. This one particular song stayed at the top of the US Billboard Top 100 chart for 3 months. It was just as successful internationally. It topped the charts in different countries including the United Kingdom and Australia. We can’t say as much to the relationship between the two as what we can between Justin and Usher, but a performance from this duo would warrant excitement for many who are watching.

It’s clear that here on campus many of the students are split between the two possible guest performers. Cheerleader, Libbee Bennett said “I feel like Lil Jon will give more of a fun show and make things more hype.” Volleyball player Daisyannette Oviedo and basketball player Alex Weiland are on the opposite side of this argument. “I feel like it will be a better performance since Usher and Justin Bieber are so close. It would make more sense for Justin to perform with him because their chemistry would be better on stage” says Oviedo. “Personally I’m a believer. Justin is just an all around great performer. My wife has seen him several times and loves him” says Weiland.

Personally, I am in favor of Justin Bieber but I would not be shocked if we see both. I mean, come on! It’s Usher! He can honestly do whatever he wants. Hopefully we have more footage of Usher than of Taylor Swift. It’s not like she really holds any relevance when Usher is in the building, but that’s just my opinion.

While SVU students seem torn, knowing Usher, you can just about guarantee that whether he does or does not bring out a guest, his performance will definitely be one that people remember for a long time to come.
