On March 27, many faculty and administration gathered around to witness the statue be put into place, completing the vision of the Knight Stadium. Cheers ensued as it was lowered by an immense crane onto its resting place.

Similar to its companion statue in front of Main Hall, Glade Knight explained that, “it represents all Knights, all students, faculty, everyone associated with the school.”

A corresponding plaque will be placed with the statue saying:

THE GAME OF LIFE

Glade, who frequently expresses his love and admiration for the students at Southern Virginia students stated that, “many games will be played at these fields, but the ultimate is the game of life.”

The facial features of the knight statue are in the likeness Glade’s father, “Mac” Knight. Someone who “is my champion and the real cowboy,” told Glade. He has also honored his father in years past by offering the “Cowboy Up” scholarship to students yearly.

This moment was also special to Nelson Knight, the main project coordinator of the Knight Stadium and son of Glade Knight. Nelson witnessed the installment of the original statue fifteen years ago as a student at the school. It had always been considered when the first statue was put up that there would be potentially more in the future, but it was not until the building of the stadium that this new Knight statue came to be a reality.
