The men’s volleyball team here at Southern Virginia University (DIII) is a source of pride for many members of the campus community. They are the current champions of their conference and are defending their title this spring.

This past Thursday, Jan. 27, they played a practice game here at the Knight Arena against Liberty University (D1). However, they fell short against Liberty, losing the game 3 sets to 1. But that is just one more reason for the team to keep working hard to achieve their goals.

The team’s outside hitter, Nahuel Necabarren (’22), is excited to play this season. He says, “The team is improving, and we are working on our connections as a team. When on the court, we work for each other and that is what makes our team so successful. We need to keep improving that if we want to keep our positive record in the conference. But looking at previous games, our team is excited and in a good place to compete.”

Steve Rasmussen (‘23), who plays the middle blocker position on the team, is also really excited for the season. He shares his thoughts about the team, saying, “I think we have the best team chemistry I’ve seen since joining the team back in 2017. We’ve also just brought in a really talented young class of players who are all really dedicated and willing to work hard.”

Their season this spring is full of many back-to-back games. The next home game will be on Feb.12 at 11 a.m. at the Knight Arena. For more information on the team’s schedule and where to watch livestreams click here.

We wish all the luck for our men’s volleyball team in their upcoming games and season. Go Knights!!
